Trump apparently in talks with Putin about “big deals for economic development”

Russia is still subject to numerous US economic sanctions because of the attack on Ukraine. Could this change soon?
US President Donald Trump says he is currently holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin about comprehensive economic cooperation between their countries. He is in "serious discussions" with Putin about ending the war in Ukraine and about "major deals for economic development," Trump wrote on Monday in his online service Truth Social . "The talks are progressing very well," Trump added.
Last Tuesday, high-ranking representatives from Washington and Moscow met for the first time to discuss relations between Washington and Moscow and possible negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Both countries drew a positive conclusion. After the meeting, both sides said that progress had been made on economic issues. Russian commentators then expressed hope that talks with the Trump administration and a possible peace agreement for Ukraine could pave the way for the lifting of the US sanctions imposed on Moscow.
Companies from the US and Europe had withdrawn from the Russian market in the wake of sanctions imposed on Russia for its attack on Ukraine. The head of the Russian state investment fund, Kirill Dmitriev, expressed confidence last week that American companies would return to Russia this year .
After the talks in Riyadh, criticism was voiced from the EU and Ukraine that the Europeans and Ukrainians had not been included. Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday, also to hold talks about Europe's participation in a possible peace agreement.
